Maybe for the future we can just keep it to, you know, books, DVDs, movies and that kind of crap. Perhaps an earnest attempt to evoke social change was not the best thing to come on and promote. What didn't quite work about his gig was what he was promoting. Was Al Sharpton a strange choice for a RAW host? Sure, but no stranger than any of the other guys. Yes, at that point, Jericho was the only other dude in the building that was going to get booed more than Al, so they needed him actually draw some of the wrath away from the good Reverend. It was interesting to see them put Jericho out there with Al Sharpton. We also talked a bit about why they seem to keep pairing him up with the RAW hosts. In case you didn't catch it, here's my interview with Chris Jericho (click!) from last week regarding his DVD horror flick, Albino Farm. Of course, there's still been no news on any of this actually happening, but it will be a ton of fun to postulate about it for months until the day it finally happens. He might not be as "electrifying" as he once was, but he's still pretty damn good. The Rock's taped promo for Smackdown was…fine? Look, he's not exactly in step with his old character, but The Rock at half-mast is still better than 90% of the WWE roster right now. My wife brings this up all the time and uses it to win just about any argument. I keep forgetting that I actually liked Southland Tales and therefore my opinion doesn't matter on any topic. His kid movies make more dough than his action movies. It's for him to be a guy who plays a cocky jerk athlete who must then have to go and out dawn glittery spandex as a form of humiliating penance. At this point my expectation of him is NOT as an action hero. It's fine that he wants to try and defy people's expectations of him and not just do action movies, but c'mon. Anyone else notice how every single Rock movie role has him getting emasculated in some way? He's either wearing tights ( Game Plan, Tooth Fairy) or kissing a dude ( Get Smart). But then again, look at the bulk of a RAW crowd these days. Man, you don't really don't think he'd come on to promote that horrible Tooth Fairy movie, do you? That movie's for babies.
